BODY OF WORK

Oxford Brookes University MFA Fine Art Final Show

20th - 30th June 2019

In Zelga’s search for a safe space in both a psychological and literal sense Zelga uses Drawing to place the viewer within the confines of a room which serves as a proxy for the mind where memories are laid bare and truths unfold. All are replete with the phenomenology of memory and thoughts relating to resilience, attachment and our need to escape the past.

Through surreal composites and recurring characters, she seeks to represent the confines of the mind, the stasis of the everyday and the psychological impact of trauma. Images are framed by the weight of emotion and a feeling of confinement, this coupled with the need for transition and the search for a calmer shore.

Layering, movement and repetition are explored using a wide variety of mediums which include pastel, ink and charcoal on opaque paper and translucent paper together with extensive moving image drawings, a life sized vinyl, layered etched Acrylic and MDF as well as a 6 meter interactive scroll.
